          Humboldt River Flood 2005

In the spring of 2005 we had lots of warm weather and too much snow melt for the region. The Humboldt River, which flows through Winnemucca, Nevada, surged above flood stages.  The Humboldt River is well known as the crooked river in Nevada, and I'm sure this flood straightened it out just a bit.
This a shot of a ranch house that would have been difficult to get to.
The water was flowing over the highway, so as you can imagine, the highway was barricaded off and traffic had to go around.
There was a lot of water.  I made a video of the water flowing over the edge of the highway, which is too big for this web site, but it really shows just how much water there actually is.
