Lofton Family Reunion 2007

Lofton Reservoir is located about 25-30 miles west of Lakeview, Oregon.  Drive west to the top of Quartz Mountain summit along highway 140, then turn south another 6-8 miles along a windy paved road.  The dirt road turnoff will take a left for another mile to the campground area.

Really beautiful country.

We met here for our annual Threet family reunion; and to celebrate a couple of birthdays.

Speaking of birthdays, the one on the left (dad) is celebrating his this weekend.
Oh, yeah, birthday cake.
This is our toast to another year for dear dad.
Yep, the one wearing the birthday banner is the birthday boy.
Dad got a BBQ for his birthday gift from us kids, and here is a picture of Mike and Rick putting it together.  It was either put it together or eat cold cuts for lunch.
While the BBQ was going together, others enjoyed the water.  Aunt Olga and Dillon paddled all over the place; which is a good way to work up a good appetite.
And, lunch is served. Actually, it may have been dinner, can't remember for sure.  The weather was great for an outing like this.
The sunset on our first evening was beautiful.  The sky was clear and there was no wind.  Just a gorgeous day.
The next day Mike showed Rick a little more on how to chip arrowheads.  Mike is a pro, and Rick... well, let's just say he's trying real hard.
Dillon started with a fairly large piece of obsidian...
... and ended with a nice arrowhead.  Dillon chips a lot like me; start with a large rock and end up with a very small arrowhead.  Or, worse yet, like most of mine turn out; broken in half from "just one more chip."
Dillon chauffeured Norma around the lake too.  Rick even had his turn.  What fun....
A walk to the other end of the lake shows the lakes size.  I'm not sure of the acreage of water, but there is enough here to have lots of fun on.  There are no motors allowed, so paddling is the way to get around.
The second day we celebrated Dillon's birthday.  He had a real big cake and we all pitched in to eat all we could.
Mike gave Dillon a nice arrowhead for his birthday.  This is definitely a treasure.
Ah!  Time to relax.
Other's found other ways to relax.
This is family Kodak moment.  The camera was set on timer and the Rick ran real fast to get in the picture.  I count 12 of us in this moment.
Standing around the campfire is always enjoyable.  We must have burned up half a cord of wood over the weekend stay.
This is the second evening sunset. Yep, another fine day at the lake; around good people.
Before we left on the final day I took this picture to show the clarity of the water.  There is quite a bit of moss coverage on the bottom, but it is easy to see down at least 10 feet in the lake.

We caught fish, paddled the canoe, swatted mosquito's (very few though), ate plenty, went on short hikes, drove to Aspen Ridge Lodge for a toddy, hauled wood, relaxed, ate some more, and had a splendid time.

Lofton Reservoir definitely scored high on our places to visit.
